MERCURIUS is a new sound performance by Amina Hocine and Jacob Kirkegaard, bringing together a bespoke eight-pipe organ, two resonating metal plates, voice and the amplified sounds of touch. The organ and the metal plates become bodies to listen through. Sound travels into the pipes and across the surfaces of the metal, opening up sounds that are close to, but not quite the sounds we expect from these materials. The voice follows them, extending the sound beyond the instrument and into the body. At the centre of the work is a meeting between two materials: air and metal.
