
Whales of Iceland is proud to present a new exhibition by photographer and filmmaker Karim Iliya . Since childhood, Karim has carried a deep curiosity for the natural world, one that has taken him from erupting volcanoes to the open ocean alongside whales. For over a decade, Karim has been documenting the lives of whales, beginning in 2014 and returning year after year to the same waters to observe their behavior, relationships, and quiet intelligence. In 2017, he founded Dance With Whales , a series of guided swimming expeditions designed to bring people face to face with whales in a respectful, non-intrusive way, fostering understanding through direct experience. In 2021, Karim traveled to Iceland to document the birth of a new volcano on what was meant to be a three-week assignment. He fell in love with the country and its people, later marrying an Icelandic woman and making Iceland his home.
